For over twenty years, Vermonters have helped fellow Vermonters pay their home heating bills through the WARMTH program. This winter, many families are facing heating costs that have doubled from last year.
At Green Mountain Power, we are offering our customers an easy way to contribute to this worthy cause. It’s called Round Up. You can choose to have your monthly Green Mountain Power bill rounded up the nearest dollar and have the extra money sent to WARMTH. If your bill is $85.51, you can round it up to $86.00 and have the extra 49 cents donated to WARMTH. Your monthly bill would then be $86.00. You may also choose to have a specific dollar amount added to your monthly bill as a contribution to WARMTH. Your contribution will continue until you notify Green Mountain Power that you wish to withdraw from the program.
Green Mountain Power collects your donations and distributes them to participating Community Action Agencies. The agencies, in turn, provide counseling and referral services and administer WARMTH funds, making sure that every dollar you contribute goes directly to a Vermonter in need.
WARMTH funds are available for emergencies. They are used when a household has exhausted its supply of fuel or faces disconnection of utility services. Funds are made available only when an individual has not been able to find sufficient help through other channels.
Community Action makes a payment directly to the individual's fuel dealer or utility, often as a part of a repayment agreement. That individual is then responsible for the remainder of the payments.
