Ability to Serve

Ability to Serve Requirements

If you are planning new construction or a commercial addition to an existing facility, you’ll need what we call “An Ability to Serve” letter. It's basically a promise that we can supply you with power from our existing (or if necessary upgraded) infrastructure. To make the process as swift and pain free as possible, we have created this checklist. You will need to provide us with the following items in order for us to grant your Ability to Serve letter:

- 911 address or approximate physical location of site

- Type of use (commercial, office space, residential, etc.)

- Square footage

- Any motor over 10 HP needs to be reported. We'll need specifics on starting current, etc.

- Air conditioning:

If it's residential, does it have central air?

If it's commercial, AC tonnage or approximate load in kW. If you would like, you may submit a load data sheet.

  • Site plan, if available, but it is not required.

  • Physical address where we can mail the letter.

You can submit this information either by e-mail to callcenter@greenmountainpower.com or US mail to Green Mountain Power, 163 Acorn Lane, Colchester, VT 05446, Attn: Engineering Dept. - Planning

Thank you. If you have questions, please call us at 1-888-835-4672.
