Substations and Copper Theft

Stealing copper is a crime. More importantly, it could kill you.

A person puts him or herself in grave danger when attempting to steal copper wire from a substation. While we don’t like being the victims of theft, we are doubly concerned because stealing wire is an extremely dangerous crime that could not only result in harm to you, but could end up creating power outages, fires, and explosions that could harm innocent people. Copper wires in substations carry very high voltages, and if tampered with can cause immediate harm. Warning and high-voltage signs are posted around substations for this reason.

Report suspicious activity

If you see suspicious activity at a substation – a non-utility vehicle, a person cutting wire along the fence, or anything else that seems unusual – please report it immediately.  If you believe a crime is being committed, call 911, and then call us at 1-888-835-4672.
