The Vermont Writers' Prize

The Vermont Writers' Prize, sponsored by Green Mountain Power and Vermont Magazine, provides an opportunity for Vermont writers to showcase their talent in one of the state’s premier literary competitions.

The prize honors the literary legacy of Vermont historian and author Ralph Nading Hill, Jr. The contest is open to all Vermont residents. Entrants may be amateur or professional writers.

Submissions may be a short story, poem, play or essay on the theme of Vermont--its people, places, history or values. Entries must be unpublished and fewer than 1,500 words long. Writers may submit only one entry per year.

All entries must be postmarked by November 1 and be accompanied by this cover sheet.  The winner will be selected by an independent panel of judges. The author will receive a cash prize of $1,500, and have the honor of seeing his or her piece published in Vermont Magazine.

Employees of Vermont Magazine or Green Mountain Power and previous winners not eligible.
