The Senior Engineer position is primarily responsible for managing and participating at various levels in projects related to the planning, design and construction of electric system projects. Also responsible for evaluating alternative designs and equipment to determine cost effectiveness and applicability to GMP's transmission, substation and distribution systems, and interacting as necessary with regulatory agencies in support of these plans. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Internal - Work is generally performed in a climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate work load, staffing emergencies or system failure.

Lead Engineer

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Journeyman Line Worker

The Journeyman Lineman position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of functions related to the construction, installation or maintenance of underground and overhead high and low voltage electric distribution systems. Work is varied in nature. Incumbent applies an advanced knowledge of electricity to work performed. Works under general supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.)

Functional:

  • Serves as a Journeyman member in team effort to construct, install or maintain overhead and underground lines, transformers and associated equipment, including the setting and removal of meters.
  • Locates and identifies trouble and restores service on all classes of lines, substations, sectionalizing equipment, and all voltage classes.
  • Performs hot-line work at all applicable voltages, including 15-kv gloving.
  • Digs pole and anchor holes and assists in setting, removing, and loading, unloading, transporting and framing poles.
  • Performs maintenance of distribution and service poles and attachments.

Information Technology Manager

This role owns the strategic vision and execution of the IT function, providing leadership/oversight to technical infrastructure planning and operations, in-house development/programming and user help desk. Communications Technician C

REPORTS TO: Substation Operations Supervisor

GENERAL SUMMARY
(What is done and why.)

The Communications Technician C position is primarily responsible for performing a variety of functions related to the installation and maintenance GMP's radio communications systems. Secondarily, this position is responsible for performing a variety of functions related to the installation, removal, maintenance, test and repair of substation high and low voltage electrical transmission, distribution, control and communication equipment as utilized in or on Substations, Transmission, Distribution, & Generating Plants. Work is varied in nature. Incumbent applies an advanced knowledge of high voltage electricity, electrical controls and radio communications technologies to work performed. Works under limited supervision and in compliance with established policies, procedures and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
(Majority of duties, but not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.)

Primary Functional:

  • Installs and programs all radio communications equipment (i.e., mobile radios, portable radios, satellite phones, pagers, base stations, remote consoles, fleet tracking transmitters and repeater equipment). Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on all equipment.
  • Plans and makes system modifications and upgrades. Researches and implements frequency changes and additions to improve overall system operation.
  • Insures radio equipment is programmed and operated in compliance with FCC rules. Maintains a file of all FCC radio licenses for GMP sites and insures proper renewal of licenses.
  • Investigates customer complaints regarding radio and television interference and determining if source is GMP's or customer's equipment. Isolates Company sources interference and recommends appropriate actions to resolve problem. Works with customers to find and eliminate sources of interference that originate within their homes.
  • Insures proper dispatch access to radio system(s).
  • Maintains test equipment used to repair radios and to locate interference sources.
  • Orders parts from appropriate vendors; maintains small inventory of commonly used parts.
  • Prepares and submits accurate and timely documentation and accounting for jobs assigned.
  • Provides support for other Field Operations personnel (i.e., Power Production, T&D Operations, Engineering and Dispatch).
  • Performs minor vehicle maintenance; contacts appropriate personnel to schedule routine and major vehicle maintenance or repair.

Secondary Functional:

  • Serves as an apprentice team member in efforts to install or maintain substation, distribution and generating plant equipment and equipment used to maintain these systems. This includes protective relays, control equipment, circuit breakers, regulators, SCADA equipment, PLCs, and generating plant control systems, etc.
  • Locates and identifies trouble and makes repairs to electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic equipment
  • Performs testing on protective devices such as relays and recloser controls, transformers, circuit breakers, communication, fiber optic and SCADA equipment.
  • Performs Doble, Megger, Turn to Turn Ratio, and Hipot testing.
  • Conducts infrared inspections on Green Mountain Power and customer equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Must complete Vermont State Electrician apprentice course work within the first 4 years in the position, or achieve Journeyman Electrician status with the State of Vermont. Will be placed in the appropriate pay program step until such time as this is completed.

  • Working knowledge of radio equipment installation and maintenance principles including safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Candidate must successfully complete the requirements for an Associates Degree in Electrical or Electronic Technologies, or equivalent course work, before progressing to a B level technician.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of electrical theory (ie; Ohm's law, AC and DC theory)
  • Must demonstrate the ability to understand procedures and use of equipment, tools and methods employed in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical facilities and utility applications, in a safe efficient manor.
  • Advanced math skills (trigonometry, calculus and logical thinking skills)
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft Windows and Office programs)
  • Must qualify for Green Mountain Power and VELCO switching and tagging lists within 4 years.
  • Current valid drivers license with a driving record suitable for insurability.
  • Good written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of an Associates Degree in Electrical Technologies or 4 years of utility and technical experience, or equivalent related experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position.)

Internal - Work is normally performed in climate controlled shop, plant or substation environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is limited. Noise level is occasionally high and includes sounds of power tools, turbines and engines. Work involves potential exposure to bodily injury from moving mechanical parts, electric shock, toxic or caustic chemical agents while performing preventive maintenance to building or equipment. Occasionally work is performed in small cramped workspaces, at heights up to 75 feet, and around water. Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate radio or system failure. Significant travel within the service territory may be required.

External - Work is routinely performed where there is exposure to outside atmospheric conditions or extreme heat/cold or moisture and exposure to traffic while performing radio installation or repair or linework functions. Work is frequently performed on uneven and slippery terrain. Occasionally work is performed in small cramped workspace.

Special - Occasionally work requires scheduled and unscheduled overtime and incumbent may be on call after hours and on weekends to respond to emergency calls regarding radio and power outages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
(The physical effort generally associated with this position.)
Work involves standing and walking for most of the time, and occasional work at heights up to 75 feet above ground. Work routinely includes pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 120 pounds floor to bench, 70 pounds floor to overhead, and holding 62 pounds at shoulder height such as tools, materials, cross arms, insulators and braces overhead. Working conditions, equipment failure and workloads during peak periods may cause increased stress levels.

Internal - Field crews from all departments, Engineering, Accounting, Purchasing, Control Center, Power Production, Fleet, Facilities, IT

External - Customers using GMP services, manufacturers, other utilities, service engineers. Supervision of Others - less experienced members of the crew, persons assist

ACCOUNTABILITY
(Budget/asset amount managed, revenues/profits produced, and/or other financial resource incumbent is accountable for. Also indicates judgement/decision-making level.)

This position is directly responsible for the overall performance and GMP's state-wide radio communications systems and for ensuring Company complies with all FCC regulations.
